The secret history of social networks
Most of you won’t know that the first computer-based social network was created by a hippy in his record store in the early ’70s (called The Well) and was popularised by The Grateful Dead… but then neither did I until I listened to this particularly enjoyable series of podcasts about social networks. Part 3 includes an interesting examination of Facebook and whether it really delivers the truly social experience we’re looking for.

Some Easily-Digested Economics
A short video from Economist Dennis Turner. It’s about business not marketing, but certainly some excellent points about the credit crunch and economy. I saw him speak at the marketing forum, he was excellent and filtered the issues down to their essential elements making economics digestible for the lay-person such as myself. These are issues that have a direct bearing on our clients, their customers and ultimately their businesses.

Another gem from TED
A great video presentation from David McCandless. We’ll all be familiar with the challenge of trying to explain the data that we generate for the our clients from campaigns that we run for them. Perhaps we’re approaching this in entirely the wrong way… greater levels of visualisation could be a way for us to tell more compelling stories for our client about how successful the campaign has been (and by implication how great we are at our jobs).
I particularly like the “timeline of global media panic”
